WELCOME!

Welcome to Portage, Indiana—the perfect place for you and your business! The Portage Economic Development Corporation is here to welcome you, help you learn more about the City of Portage and facilitate your move to our business-friendly community, while respecting the confidentiality of your project.
Portage is in "the middle of everywhere". Just a 40 minute drive to downtown Chicago, or just minutes via the South Shore Commuter Rail Line that runs from South Bend, IN to Chicago, IL. Portage is a critical northwest Indiana and Midwest area transportation hub, with the international Port of Indiana - Burns Harbor, interstates I-90/94 and I-80, and two Class I rail lines within our borders. Ameriplex at the Port, with 22 thriving businesses, is our premier industrial business park. As part of the federally funded Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District's (NICTD) double track project, South Shore Portage/Ogden Dunes rail station area has been designated as a Transit Development District (TDD), offering opportunities that will provide benefits to residents, commuters and potential investors.

Unique to our region is northwest Indiana's integrated sustainability plan, which partners some of the nation's largest steel and other major industrial operations with our environmental community. As an example, within Portage's boundaries is Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk, formerly land used by US Steel for their settling ponds and water filtration plant, which is now part of the Indiana Dunes National Park. Providing access to Lake Michigan, Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk, along with the Portage Marina, offers views of the Chicago skyline and beautiful evening sunsets. Hiking, biking and water trail systems connect to the National Park and abundant inland waterways.

Portage's downtown district is blossoming! Founders Square is our mixed use, walking friendly town hub anchored by upscale housing at The Promenade at Founders Square. Founders Square offers shopping, restaurants and an outdoor amphitheater for a variety of community and recreational activities. Direct access to our vast trail system leads to Lake Michigan and our premier city park, Imagination Glen, a 276 acre gem providing mountain biking, BMX racing, a variety of sports complexes and a large nature preserve.

The Portage Economic Development Corporation can help with evaluation of available sites as well as workforce recruitment and training, and also provide incentive and tax information. To assist with business growth, the State of Indiana offers a great incentive package, which is well complemented by additional incentives from the City of Portage. Portage EDC works closely with Portage elected officials and City economic, redevelopment and planning teams to help navigate through the process and assure you have a positive and productive experience.
